Known as a "Suburban Scramble", this is an area that houses young families, singles, and retired couples in a mixture of new apartments and patio homes with breathtaking views of Mt. Benson, older character homes on large treed lots, and carefully planned out modern subdivisions. In fact the only thing residents of Central Nanaimo have in common is, well the desire to be central!
Within minutes of downtown, the ferry terminal, and Vancouver Island University, it is also just a stone's throw away from Nanaimo Regional Hospital, and boasts a vein of fabulous shopping running right through the middle of it.
While it definitely has a suburban vibe to it, Central Nanaimo is no stranger to green space. Bowen Park and Beban Park head and flank the area, with a multiple smaller parks in between.
Enjoy raising a pint in one of three neighbourhood pubs: The Landlubber Pub, The Quarterway Pub, and the Windward Pub. All offer warm atmospheres and excellent food.
Pubs not your thing? Enjoy a tasting of spirits and cocktails at the truly unique Arbutus Distillery, or sip a rich coffee at Regard Coffee Roasters.
Prefer to eat at home? Country Grocers offers island produced meats and produce, while Nanaimo Bakery has some of the most decadent baked goods in the city!
Head outside and hit some balls Pryde Vista Golf Course, take a dip in the pool or take Rover to the dog park at Beban Park, or play some tennis or lawn bowl at Bowen Park. Bowen Park also offers some great hiking trails.
